Card

Holiday cards are exchanged in many parts of the world and this tradition was very much alive here when I was little but is sadly dying out now. Every year we made cards for our friends and family and paper snowflakes for the windows… (*If you prefer to watch then read – I have a video on how to make a cute hedgehog Christmas card here).

Let’s make some cards! You don’t need anything fancy, kids’ supplies will do:)

What is it all about?

Probably no need to explain – a card is a piece of decorated cardboard that is sent to someone you wish happy holidays to or at certain important dates like birthdays and anniversaries.

You can splatter white snowflakes with a toothbrush or a paintbrush. And if you’re lucky one will land directly on the snowman’s nose…

So who likes sending cards the most?

Besides the UK, Danish and Filipinos send a lot of Christmas cards. The tradition is very much at home in the USA and Australia as well.

If you like painting, seize the opportunity to pull out your paintbrushes and just play…

How do we make one?
Cards are wonderful because we can make them in numerous ways so everyone can find their favourite method. They can be painted – elaboratively or very simply with just some leaves and marks.

Simple and easy but it looks elegant nevertheless…

We can use natural materials to make them: twigs, spruce springs, dried fruit cut-outs etc…

My kiddo’s work: twigs and caps of acorns with an orange-peel star.

We can also make use of origami or some simple paper folding or die-cuts or stickers, sequins and glitter (recommended if you don’t have small children:D) Everything goes and the brighter, the merrier… You can go over the top on this one:)

Another kids’ creation: the tree is made from folded circles…

However, if you’re pressed for time or just enjoy the minimalist style, there are still many ideas to try out – just a triangle with a star will do:)

Last but not least – simple, quick and very easy to do…

Whom would you like to send the card to?
